New consumer research commissioned by Google indicates that consumers frequently combine use of the newspaper and the Internet to evaluate and make purchases. Among people who research products and services after seeing them advertised in newspapers, two-thirds use the Internet to find more information. Of that group, nearly 70% of consumers actually make a purchase following their additional research.*

Newspapers continue to grow their presence within local communities. In the second quarter of 2011, newspaper websites had more than 111 million unique visitors and reached more than 65% of all active Internet users.
