Readers Prefer Community Newspapers

In communities served by a newspaper with a circulation under 15,000, over 70% read a local newspaper each week.

In 2011 the National Newspaper Association and the research arm of the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism came together for an annual survey on media and uncovered some interesting facts about local community newspaper readers.

  • 81% of local residents rely on the paper for local news and information
  • 86% of local residents say their newspaper is informative
  • 3 in 4 of the local readers look forward to reading their community newspaper
