Newspaper Circulation on the Rise

The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) recently announced an increase in newspaper circulation.  ABC has seen a 5% increase in Sunday circulation and an almost 1% increase in daily circulation across their 618 reporting newspapers.

This increase can be largely attributed to the rise in usage of newspapers' digital editions, the percentage of total circulation for digital editions has risen from 8.66% to 14.2%  A digital edition (replica or non-replica) is defined by ABC as a "Smartphone apps, PDF Replicas, Metered or Restricted-Access Websites, or eReaders". 

The top five newspapers (by circulation) in the United States remain the following:

  • Wall Street Journal
  • USA Today
  • The New York Times
  • The Los Angeles Times
  • The Daily News of New York
